The goals of this exercise are to align on team purpose, establish shared values, create working agreements, define success metrics, and build team identity.
You'll have a team charter, a shared working agreement, and a foundation for collaboration.
Involve everyone to get buy-in. Keep the charter concise and actionable. Review and update it every 6 months. Display it prominently.

  1. Define purpose (20 min): Why does this team exist? What value do we provide?

  2. Establish values (20 min): Identify 3-5 core values that guide team behavior.

  3. Create working agreements (25 min): Define norms for communication, meetings, decision making, conflict resolution, and work-life balance.

  4. Set success metrics (15 min): Define how you will measure team success.

  5. Identify stakeholders (10 min): List key stakeholders and their expectations.

  6. Finalize and commit (5 min): Everyone signs off on the charter.
