Arrange seating to support both individual and group work. Make sure everyone can see the workspace and access materials. Test technology beforehand. Sometimes, teams struggle with Phase 3 (Collaborative Mapping). Remind them to focus on building connections, not perfecting the map.
This exercise takes 90 minutes.

  1. Preparation (15 minutes): Set up the mapping canvas. Introduce the mapping framework and objectives. Define the scope. Distribute materials and assign roles.

  2. Information Gathering (25 minutes): Collect data points and insights. Use sticky notes for individual contributions. Encourage diverse perspectives. Focus on facts and observations.

  3. Collaborative Mapping (35 minutes): Place information on the canvas. Organize content within the framework. Identify connections. Resolve conflicts and clarify ambiguities.

  4. Analysis & Insights (10 minutes): Review the completed map. Identify patterns, gaps, and opportunities. Discuss key insights. Prioritize critical findings.

  5. Documentation (5 minutes): Capture the map digitally or with a photo. Document key insights.
