Prototype Testing

Test prototypes with real users. Learn what works and what doesn't. Focus on learning, not validation. Discover insights, don't prove assumptions.

Learn what users actually do. Identify problems and opportunities. Generate insights for the next iteration. Test assumptions about user behavior and needs.
Prototype testing completed. User feedback captured. Solid foundation for iteration.
Stay curious when users struggle. Don't get defensive. Ask open-ended questions like, "What would you expect to happen next?" Don't explain how it should work. Focus on user behavior, not opinions. Document direct quotes and specific actions. Synthesize insights immediately. (I've found that delayed synthesis loses key details.)

  1. Set clear hypotheses (10 min).

  2. Test prototypes with 3-4 users (15 min each).

  3. Use think-aloud protocol and realistic scenarios.

  4. Document observations in real-time, using structured notes.

  5. Synthesize insights and prioritize changes (15 min).
