Participants will produce:

  • A concept map visualizing relationships between ideas.

  • A shared mental model of the domain.

Start with a simple concept and build gradually. Labeling connections is key to understanding the relationships. Look for unexpected insights that emerge during the mapping process. Sometimes, the initial concept needs adjustment as connections become clearer.

  1. Define the main concept.

  2. List related ideas.

  3. Draw the main concept in the center of your working area.

  4. Add related concepts around the main concept.

  5. Connect related concepts to the main concept, and to each other, with lines.

  6. Label each connection to describe the relationship.

  7. Look for patterns and clusters of ideas.

  8. Identify gaps in the map where connections are missing.

  9. Refine the map and share it with others.
