It's vital to create psychological safety so the team can perform an honest assessment. Focus on improvements, not assigning blame. Schedule regular follow-up sessions (monthly or quarterly) to maintain momentum.
Review attributes (10 min): Introduce the 8 team health attributes: Full-time owner, Balanced team, Shared understanding, Value and metrics, Proof of concept, One-pager, Managed dependencies, Velocity.
Vote on health (20 min): For each attribute, team members vote: Green (healthy), Yellow (warning), Red (unhealthy).
Discuss divergence (30 min): Focus on attributes with mixed votes. Understand the different perspectives that lead to varied ratings.
Identify focus areas (20 min): Choose 1-2 red or yellow attributes to focus on improving.
Create action plan (10 min): Define specific, actionable steps and assign owners for each improvement item.
