Team 2016
Team Charter Canvas (DABB variant)
A nine-zone charter with a dedicated protocol for what the team does when trouble hits.
What it is
Team Members, Driver, Expectations and Team Values sit alongside Slogan, Obstacles, Energy Sources and Team Goal, but the distinguishing zone is Trouble — a conflict-and-crisis protocol agreed before anything goes wrong. Each member fills in their own Team Members entry rather than having one person describe everyone.
Reach for it when
- A newly formed team that has a goal but no agreement on how it handles conflict
- A diverse group whose members have never said out loud what they individually need from each other
- A team that hits its first real disagreement with no protocol to fall back on
Running it
- Have each person fill in their own Team Members entry — role, values, skills, character — rather than one person describing everyone.
- Agree Team Values and Team Goal together as a full-group discussion.
- Fill Expectations and Energy Sources, drawing out what each member individually needs and offers, in a 45 to 60 minute session.
- Close by naming Obstacles and agreeing the Trouble protocol — the piece most teams skip and most need.
Watch out: The Trouble box gets skipped or filled in at the last minute, defeating its purpose of being agreed before conflict happens, and Team Values end up imposed by one person instead of built collectively.

This workshop was incredibly effective for our remote team! We adapted it slightly for a virtual setting and it worked wonderfully. The key was breaking into smaller breakout rooms.
Great resource! One tip: prepare all materials the day before to avoid any last-minute rushes.
Used this for our quarterly planning session. The structured approach really helped us stay on track!
