5 Bold Steps Vision Canvas
Seven boxes that turn a vision statement into five sequenced, bold actions.
What it is
Vision Statement sits at the centre, with Essential Themes and How It Shows Up beneath it, Supports and Challenges flanking it, Key Values as the foundation, and 5 Bold Steps as the sequence leading out. The fill order runs vision, themes, manifestations, values, supports, challenges, then the five steps themselves.
Reach for it when
- A leadership team that agrees on where it's going but not on the first five moves to get there
- An executive offsite producing inspirational language with nothing sequential behind it
- A newly merged organisation trying to state one future both sides can point to
Running it
- Book 90 minutes and a relaxed, private space rather than a conference room — the source is explicit that the room changes the output.
- Draft the Vision Statement first, then name the Essential Themes in one or two words each and describe How It Shows Up for each.
- Add Key Values as the foundation, then work outward to Supports and Challenges flanking the vision.
- Close by sequencing the 5 Bold Steps with a group of 3 to 15, on large paper with fine-tip markers.
Watch out: Groups fill Vision, Themes and Values fluently and run out of energy for the 5 Bold Steps — the one box that turns inspiration into action.

This workshop was incredibly effective for our remote team! We adapted it slightly for a virtual setting and it worked wonderfully. The key was breaking into smaller breakout rooms.
Great resource! One tip: prepare all materials the day before to avoid any last-minute rushes.
Used this for our quarterly planning session. The structured approach really helped us stay on track!
