Cover Story Vision Canvas

Seven boxes that design the magazine cover story your boldest future would earn.

What it is

Laid out like an actual magazine spread: a Cover panel, Headlines, an Interview block, a Bottom Line of hard facts, and Quotes, Social Media and Instagram Pictures as supporting sidebars. Teams pick a target publication and a timeframe — 5, 10 or 20 years out — before filling it in.

Reach for it when

  • A team stuck describing its future in the same cautious language as its present
  • A vision exercise that needs a concrete artefact, not another bullet-point slide
  • A group whose 5 Bold Steps have no shared destination to sequence toward yet

Running it

  1. Create a relaxed, creative environment with colourful materials and actual magazines for collage.
  2. Discuss and pick a target magazine and a timeframe: 5, 10 or 20 years ahead.
  3. Develop the cover story using the template — Cover and Headlines first, then Interview, Bottom Line, Quotes, Social Media and Instagram Pictures.
  4. Validate the vision with others outside the room, then carry it into the 5 Bold Steps Canvas to make it actionable.

Watch out: The exercise produces a vivid story and stops there — its own source frames it as only useful once validated with others and translated into 5 Bold Steps; skip that bridge and the cover story stays fiction.
